News just leaked that mega-star Beyonce Knowles will be taking the stand in a Chicago federal court on December 10 to defend Destiny Child’s usage of the song “Cater 2 U.” The song was featured on the group’s final and multi-platinum album Destiny Fullfilled. Local Chicago artist Ricky Allen filed allegations of copyright infringement back in 2006. According to the blog theboombox.com, “Allen copyrighted his 'Cater 2 U' in the mid-1990's, performing the tune around Chicago and updating its copyright three times, most recently in 2000. He claims he delivered a copy of his song to Chicago producer Maurice Joshua, who Allen planned to collaborate with on a demo. Though the demo never came to fruition, Joshua later recorded a song with Destiny's Child, but claims he never had a copy of Allen's song.”
A Chicago judge has ruled that enough evidence exists for Allen's case to go before a jury in Chicago's federal court, citing Joshua as a plausible link between Allen and Knowles."Do we say [Beyonce's] responsible for copying? Yes. But there's no such thing as innocent copying, even if it's unintentional," argued Allen's lawyer. "The jury will decide the notion that these are simple coincidences."
We see this type of allegation being made all the time with major artist. I’ve often heard that many major artists don’t except demos from local artists because their afraid of these kind of allegations backfiring on them. If Ricky Allen is to have a legitimate claim and own the copyrights to this song, more power to him for having his intellectual property protected. Many artists don’t know the value of having their material copyrighted through the government and are left with a great song and no money or credit to show for it. I’ve known the process of copyrighting sound recordings online for a while now, and it is not the easiest of task if you’re not familiar with the terms, but its doable and fairly inexpensive. It is only $45 to upload a maximum of ten songs at a time, and it can all be done online.
According to the RIAA, the Destiny Fullfilled album has sold over 3.5 million copies. Now hypothetically speaking lets say that Ricky Allen’s case proves to be legit, I think it is safe to say that he will make a pretty penny off back paid royalties. I’m taking a music publishing course this semester and I’m very curious to see what my professors have to say about this case, and if they can give me some sort of estimation to how much Ricky could make off of this settlement assuming he wins. So a lesson learned from this case is- local artist protect what’s yours, and major make sure you know what’s yours and what’s not.

The Smart Guy Can Sing!??
Taj Mowry, yeah that's right Tia and Tamara's little brother is pursuing a singing career...and he's not bad. Check him out singing Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana."
Fab no like 50 Cent?
This past weekend 50 Cent hosted a hip hop concert, the ThisIs50.com Festival, in New York City. 50 Cent, usually known for bullying his competition, showed another side of himself by providing a line up filled with some of New York's hottest emcees. Guest included former enemies The Lox, as well as Maino, Corey Gunz, Wale, Jim Jones, Juelz Sanatana, and more. Prior to this festival, nobody has ever seen 50 be so collaborative outside of his G-Unit family. Fellow New York emcee Fabolous pointed out this fact via his Twitter account. "It's interesting to see 50 Cent unite with NY artists when he's one of the reasons NY hip hop became so isolated & crumbled.. Do u agree NY??"
He then added: "I wonder if this is a law in the 50th Law of Power' book? I guess it was a good show for New York.. But if you asked 50 a few years ago if he ever saw himself on stage with any of them, he would've said HELL NO!"
In another Tweet, Fab said he's not dissing 50 Cent "At 50's peak, his grind was unmatched, image was bulletproof, music was ignorantly motivational & catchy, even classic. Most never have that. ... So don't think I'm takin' shots at 50.. Just that NY show had me a lil' puzzled.. But I love NY so I couldn't knock it if I wanted to."
In my opinion there is some truth to what Fabolous is saying, a few years ago 50 Cent's intense competitive mentality would have never allowed him to collaborate some of the artist he brought on stage. However, in my opinion it is this competitive mentality that has allowed 50 to become the success that he is, and without 50 NY hip hop might have been in an even worse state. Although I feel that at the end of the day this was strictly a business move for 50 Cent, and a way to garner some good publicity before his album drops in November, I think 50 is becoming a smarter individual and realizing that his bullyish approach was getting old and gimmicky. I think Fab's statement was within reason, and I found it funny how he quickly made it clear that he wasn't taking shots at 50, knowing that 50 salivates at the opportunity of war, but I think Fab should just fall back and let the cards play out, and hopefully 50 is sincerely reaching out to some of these newer artist and creating a new image for himself.

Atlanta's So So Def sign is no more!!
Damn, this was one of the first things I noticed when went to the A for the first time. Seem like the recession hitting e'body and they mama these days. Will So So Def be the next iconic hip hop label to go extinct? I hope not. Bad Boy might be the last standing...(diddy take that voice) can't stop, won't stop. JD is very underrated when it comes to his contribution to black music period. He's arguably one of the greatest hiphop and rnb producers of our generation. I think the city should help out so they can leave the sign up there. That sign has become a landmark for the A!
After more then a decade the Atlanta staple that many have come to know and love is no longer.
Jermaine Dupri's "Welcome To Atlanta So So Def" sign has been taken down.
I was coming from out of town when I noticed it had been removed. I thought I had passed it, but after driving back down 75 and coming back up again it was no mistake the sign is no longer.
After slightly digging around I hear the sign was simply too expensive in these troubled times. You would've thought that they city of Atlanta would've kept it up. But I guess our Mayor has bigger problems than a damn JD sign.
Personally, I am saddened that the historic billboard is no longer.
It seems like everything we once knew is changing with each passing day. Da Brat is in jail, Bow Wow is a grown man, JD has ARGUABLY fallen off and Xscape is..well u know. What a way to end a legacy.
What do I tell my people's who drive into town now? Look out for the Varsity sign???
Talk to y'all lata,

Chris' relationship with 40 year old manager exposed
March 10, 2009. MediaTakeOut.com just got its hands on an explosive piece of information. The woman who caused the fight between Rihanna and Chris Brown was his 40 year old manager Tina Davis!!!
In an explosive turn of events, the website TMZ revealed today that the "hook up" text that Chris received shortly before assaulting Rihanna came from his manager.
And there's more, MediaTakeOut.com has learned that the two have had an ongoing SEXUAL relationship since Chris was 16 years old.

A Brihanna DUET!! Chris and Rihanna are Ike and Tina forreal! lol
TMZ learned that secret late-night recording sessions between Rihanna and Chris Brown happened and that a duet filled with emotion is in the works.
According a source, producer Polow Da Don convinced both Chris Brown and Rihanna to get in the studio and record a love song stat, stressing that timing was important because the heightened emotions would translate powerfully into the music.
This is getting crazy now. Celebrities are doing any and everything to capitalize off of controversy these days. Both of em are crazy as hell. This is obviously gonna make them hella money, but damn, its just too quick and too damn much for me right now. Rihanna holla at me baby!

Charles Hamilton is the TRUTH
Ok, when i first saw an interview he did with hiphopgame.com i knew the kid had the personality to make it thru the clutter, but i when i heard his music for the first time i didn't understand what all the hype was about. BUT NOW I GET IT. This multi instrumentalist/emcee has TALENT yo. The past couple days i've listened to a couple of his mixtapes, My Brain is Alive, and My Ex Girlfried Worst Nightmare, and both of them are genius. Producing and writing everything for himself. For first time listeners you may be thrown off by the wierd mix of the production, but this wierd panning of samples and extra thick drum kicks is done on purpose by Charles. It definitely gives him distinctive Dilla-like sound. His lazy delivery does get a bit monotnous at times, but sometimes his lyrics shine thru and the flow becomes hypnotic. If you know good music, you'll see why his latest projects are worth consideration. I can definitely see this cat gaining a strong cult-like fanbase over the next few years...

Chris Brown making a PR move?? Makes sense.
The press is buzzing with new reports that Chris and Rihanna have reconciled -- and are staying together in Sean "Diddy" Combs Miami mansion. But not everyone is happy about this new reunion. MediaTakeOut.com spoke with a person close to Rihanna who had some STARTLING REVELATIONS.
Here's what the person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity told MediaTakeOut.com:
Chris' people told the press that he was [reconciling] with Rihanna. They told [a popular magazine] where they were going to be and made sure to "be available" for paparazzi photos.
It works to rebuild Chris' reputation, but what is it doing for Rihanna?? Chris has a lot of very slick and devious people around him now. Rihanna better watch her back.

Calid B's Words of Wisdom #1
Regrets vs. Rejection
Have you ever regretted not applying for a program that might have benefited you? Have you ever regretted not asking a question? Have you ever regretted a lie? Have you ever regretted not going up to talk to somebody? Having Regrets and facing Rejection are two issues that we all deal with in our lifetime, and they both are present during times where we need to make important decisions. A regret is an emotion that we feel when we are sorry about an event, a person, or a situation. Rejection happens when someone does not agree with something we did or said.
With that being said, I feel like a lot of people end up having regrets because of the belief that they may get rejected from whatever they desire at the time. I want to inform these people that regret is an emotion that we should try to eliminate from our lives. Most of us have a clear understanding of what is right and what is wrong depending on the choices we make in life. If we listen to our inner voice that is telling us the right thing to do, regretful thoughts will soon be minimized. The choices we make in life determine our destiny, and if you are trying to do something right, to empower your life, why should you fear rejection, or fear failure. If rejection or failure happens to occur after you make your decision, then don't regret it, just look at it as that wasn't meant to happen for you at that time. Keep it moving! Not to sound cliche, but everyone's a winner, lol! We all should strive for success and try to be the best we can be, but rejection and failure are apart of life and they will happen sooner or later, but they are two things that we often learn from the most, and that way we won't make the same mistake again. So why fear it? Live life! Regret is internal, rejection is external, don't worry about what you can't control.

Nas and Damien Marley working on new album together!!
Yo, the few joints that they have done in the past so far have all been dope, I predict a classic outta these two if they get it done, hands down!
-While he didn’t win a Grammy award for his last album – the controversial concept disc originally titled “Nigger” - Nas is currently in the studio with Damian “Junior Gong” Marley cooking up a follow-up project.
In an interview with MTV News the Queens-bred rapper seemed very excited about his collaboration with the son to Reggae legend Bob Marley. “Right now, I’ll tell you first, I’m working on an album with Damian Marley, and we tryin’ to build some schools in Africa with this one, and trying to build empowerment,” he revealed. “We’re tryin’ to show love and stuff with this album. So, the record’s … all about really the ‘hood and Africa also as well. That’s coming out real soon.”
Esco says the CD may come out sometime in Spring but there is no official release date as of yet.
This isn’t the first time the two have teamed up. Nas appeared on “Road To Zion” off Marley’s 2005 album, Welcome To Jamrock.
In related news the rapper is preparing for the birth of his first child with his wife, singer Kelis. Nas has one daughter, Destiny, with his ex-girlfriend Carmen Bryan

My thought on the Grammys 2009
First off I just wanna say FREE CRHIS BROWN! Issa its your time now, lol...I was buggin when I heard that went down, I hope both parties are ok though. Secondly, I would like to say that the Grammys in my opinion were once anti-climatic. It wasn't a bad show but it wasn't great. Apart from the moments that I got excited to see hip hop hold it down on the mainstage several times throughout the show, there wern't any moments that I can't wait to talk about tommorow. I must say that I was very proud of Lil Wayne for getting his this year, although Lupe Fiasco's: The Cool was the best album of 08', you can't argue that Wayne's impact of the industry as a whole in 08 was historical. I'm not from New Orleansbut I've been there a couple times, and I feel that his city would be happy with the way they were represented well under the circumstances.
Another good moment was Jay Z's cameo during Coldplay's performance, Hov's swag was stupid lol, he definitely killed that verse. The Swagger Like Us performance was dope too. MIA is a G for performing on the day she is expecting to deliver, that would of been wild if she would have went into labor while performing! Radiohead did their thing too...that marching band combined with Tom Yourk's energy drew me in...It also seems like everybody trying to grow their hair out these days too, I noticed the homey Lupe got a few naps poking out now, and is it just me or does Kanye's new hairstyle make him look 10 years older. I dunno, thats it I guess...o yeah I had never heard the song until tonight, but that country record that won all the awards was throwing me off because all 3 of the people that made the song seemed lame as hell, but once they performed the record I can understand why they won everything, its a good song, reminded me of some old school blues...but yeah I hope to earn a Grammy in my future one day, all in due time. Hip hop made alot of progress tonight but as you witnessed, we still have a long way to go...lets take it to the next level!!!

Chris and Rihanna the new Ike and Tina??? I hope not
I was wondering why they didn't show Chris and Rihanna throughout the whole Grammys show...This is from a live blog by the LA Times

Cam is Back!!!
Call it a comeback.
After nearly two years out of the spotlight, the Diplomats’ charismatic founder, Cam’ron, sat down with XXL magazine for his first interview in years.
The cover story features Cam finally speaking on his enigmatic hiatus, Diplomats ownership, being an alleged “paper gangster” and the root of his rifts with Jim Jones and Juelz Santana, among other things. While Dipset loyalists seemingly can’t get over Dipset being a Cam-less crew, Killa appears to have moved on.
"So I understand what the fans are saying,” Cam told XXL executive editor Vanessa Satten, who penned the article. “And it’s kinda messed up. But what you gotta realize is that things can always be fixed behind the scenes. But once a problem gets public, it’s kind of unfixable.”
Per Cam, Jones suggesting to cook up a publicity stunt and his feud with 50 Cent largely contributed to the crew’s internal feud being “unfixable.”
“The two things that you could say it was is: They come to my house and try to start a fake beef between me and [Jim],” Cam explained. “And the kinda like siding with 50 when me and him is in the dead middle of beefing or whatever.”
XXL Magazine’s April issue featuring Cam’ron on the cover hits newsstands soon. Crime Pays, Cam’s first album in three years, is set to hit stores April 21th.
